BLABY TOWN FORUM

An exciting new initiative is underway in Blaby, whereby local councils, in partnership with the business community, are exploring ways to promote and improve the vitality and viability of the centre.
At its first meeting the Forum explored some of the strengths and weaknesses of Blaby ‘Town’ Centre:
• Strengths: Free car parking, diversity of businesses, positive councils.
• Weaknesses: Insufficient parking.
Owners of businesses have expressed a wish to become involved in events. Blaby Parish Council welcomes such involvement; starting with Christmas arrangements perhaps?

POLICE FILE

Dear Blaby residents,

As one of two local beat Officers serving Blaby Village, I thought I would update you on recent police issues. We have had a long and hot summer, which, together with the World Cup has certainly made it memorable for us all. Like it or loathe it we couldn’t get away from it. On a local note, we saw many revellers converge on Blaby. I am pleased to report that in the main, most were well behaved, with few arrests and little reported disorder. Anti-social behaviour s a current trend which is evident for us all to see. Blaby Local Policing Unit has been working hard on this issue. A great deal of alcohol has been confiscated from under age drinkers. Off licences have been visited by Police and Trading Standards in an effort to combat it. Letters have been sent to parents advising them of their child’s behaviour. We are working closely with Blaby District Council Community Safety Team with repeat offenders. Fortunately, Blaby itself has had less reported such incidents this year.
I would urge motorists in the village to be aware of their vehicles’ security. Vehicles have been broken into on Blaby car parks where property has been left on display. The latest trend is the theft of Satellite Navigation Systems, which are easily removed.
I can honestly say it’s been a pleasure to police our village throughout the summer and I look forward to seeing you in the coming months…

Take care
Nick Taylor PC845

Jurassic Leicestershire

The event in Blaby Precinct in summer, part of the Blaby
Arts Festival, was such a success that the Parish Council
will try to have it put on again next year

REINDEER

The Parish Council is delighted to report that the ‘real, live reindeer’ will again be attending the Annual Carol Singing event in The Precinct on Saturday, 23rd December 2006.

HORSE “LITTER”

It has been noted that horse riders are encroaching more and more into residential areas, with the subsequent mess on the road. Of more concern though is the amount of manure that is frequently dropped on pavements. May the Parish Council please remind horse riders that the Highway Code states, “You MUST NOT take a horse onto a footpath, pavement or cycle track”. The Council thanks you for your co-operation in helping to keep Blaby’s streets clean.

BLABY PARISH COUNCIL’S ACTIVITIES SINCE LAST NEWSLETTER

Cemetery Extension

The work to the new area has been completed satisfactorily and is ready for when it is needed.

Deputy Clerk

Mrs. Suzanne Hansford completed her six-month probationary period in June, and was offered the position of Deputy Clerk. The offer was accepted and Mrs. Hansford became the Parish Council’s first-ever Deputy Clerk.

Community/Teen Shelter
It has been agreed to site a Community/Teen Shelter on Northfield Park, near the railway, as soon as funding is available. It is hoped that lottery funding will be forthcoming; in which case, the project will not have cost Blaby parishioners a penny. The Police have made a donation of £1000, and Blaby District Council has give £4389 towards the scheme.

Full Strength
The Parish Council is now up to full strength,
having 18 Members. The Council is pleased to
welcome Mrs. Marguerite Armstrong and
Mr. Adrian Bramley to its ranks.

Bridlepath (Through Cemeteries)

A problem arose with the newly tarmacadamed path when it was reported that horses were slipping on the new surface. The situation was resolved as quickly as possible by the addition of a surface dressing which “roughened” the surface.
