There are 58 plots (with 78 tenants - 2008), which vary in size from 150 to 400 square yards. Rents, depending on size of plot, between £10.50 and £23.00 per plot p.a. (2008).

There is a waiting list (residents of Blaby village have priority on the waiting list).

The affairs of the Allotments are looked after by the Estates Committee which meets at 13 Western Drive, Blaby on the 4th Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m.

Allotment Fees 2008

400 sq. yards: £23.00 per annum
300 sq. yards: £21.00 per annum
200 sq. yards: £11.50 per annum
150 sq. yards: £10.50 per annum
Plot 58: £18.50 per annum

There is a surcharge of £10.00 for tenants who are non-Blaby residents.

Allotment Rules

1. The Tenant shall keep the allotment free from weeds, well manured and in a good state of cultivation.

2. The Tenant shall cause neither nuisance nor annoyance to any other Tenant.

3. The Tenant shall not underlet, assign or part with the possession of the tenancy of the allotment.

4. The Tenant shall not erect any building on the allotment without the consent of the Council.

5. No buildings will be permitted in the centre of an allotment. Tenants of a split plot may negotiate to erect one or two sheds on the hedge boundary.

6. The rent shall be payable, yearly in advance, during the first week in January. Tenants will be advised of arrangements for collection of rent at least 3 weeks before, in writing.

7. The Tenancy shall determine on one month's notice if:
a) The Tenant is more than six weeks in arrears with the rent, and after being served with a notice to the effect by the Clerk, or;
b) It appears to the Council that the Tenant, not less than three months after the commencement of the tenancy has not duly observed the rules affecting the allotment; or
c) By the Council giving twelve months' notice in writing, expiring on the yearly rent day; or
d) On the death of the Tenant.

8. No livestock of any description shall be kept on the allotments.

9. The Tenant shall keep and maintain a path on the right hand side of the plot as seen from the main path.
: No Tenant may obstruct any path set out by the Council for the use of Tenants.

10. If a Tenant falls ill and cannot for the time being cultivate his/her plot, the Clerk must be informed.

11. Bonfires -
a) May not be sited or lit within 10 yards of any perimeter hedge or fence;
b) Nuisance from smoke causes annoyance to neighbouring properties and is an offence against the Clean Air Act. Nuisance is not caused on every occasion that a fire is lit, but Tenants must have regard to the direction of the wind.
c) Only dry, dead vegetation may be burnt, to prevent fires smouldering and smoking for many hours;
d) Fires must not be lit during school hours.

12. The use of sprinklers is not allowed.

13. All Tenants are responsible for keeping trimmed the side of the hedge that abuts their allotment (this refers to all hedges). The Parish Council is responsible for the maintenance of the top and the other side of the hedges, where applicable (such as the footpath hedge).

14. The site must be kept secure. The Tenant must lock the gates having passed through them.

15. Dogs MUST be kept on a lead.

16. The outgoing Tenant has the right to pick crops for a period of up to one month, from termination of the tenancy, upon agreement with the Clerk and the new Tenant.

17. The Tenant shall observe and perform any other special conditions which the Council considers necessary, to preserve the allotments from deterioration and of which, notice to applicants for the allotments is given in accordance with these rules.
